For which I am thankful

In case I don't say it enough, I really like working at Mudd.  Here are a few of the reasons why:

1. It's beautiful.  No, really, it is.  This is what fall in Southern California looks like:

Seriously, with mountains like these even the gas station looks good.

2. President Maria Klawe juggles.  At trustee retreats.  On video.

3. There's a Lord of the Rings reading marathon this Thanksgiving weekend.  There will be food, beverages, and middle earth maps.  My favorite part?  Even professors are participating.

4. Lindsay's shoes.  We had a tour guide kerfuffle last week -- ten minutes past tour time, and still no tour guide.  (Not a frequent occurrence, but it happens.)  And there was Lindsay Hall, a former tour guide, all spiffed up in her senior interviewer finery, including adorable high heels not remotely suitable for walking backwards.  And Lindsay, without hesitating, handed me her shoes and put on mine.  So that is the story of how Lindsay bravely stepped into the line of tour guide duty, and I ended up with shoes that were way cuter than my black flats.

5.  The E11 class final!  It was Monday; naturally the admission staff went.  The winning robot was created by Aarthi Sridhar and Emily Blatter and the team name was (say "awww" with me now) Wall-E.  This particular robot did not dance to "Hello Dolly," but since it efficiently eliminated the competition, we'll forgive that one small oversight.  The video I took will win zero credits for quality or craftsmanship, but watch the first few seconds just to listen to the crowd -- I defy Rose Bowl football fans to match Mudders for intensity.
