The End Is The Beginning

Today’s committee, where we stuff admit packets and prepare letters to mail, marks the end of reading season. We’ve read every application, discussed them all (sometimes at great length), and made our decisions, and now we’re finally going to let our applicants know about the results of all of that work. (Letters are going out this afternoon!)

The assembly line, hard at work! Mad props to our intrepid senior interviewer Becky, in the center, who was a dedicated assembler for the entire process.

It’s exciting for us to have a class finally set. We finally know exactly who we’re offering admission to, and have some idea of who we can expect to see on campus next year. At the same time, though, we also know exactly who we aren’t admitting. The prospect of disappointing 5/6 of our applicants is, well, somewhat depressing. We received a multitude of fabulous applications from amazing students that we read, loved, and ultimately placed on the alternate list or denied.

I comfort myself with the thought that even though some of those amazing students didn’t get into Mudd, they’ll end up going somewhere else almost as cool. And everyone in our pool, regardless of what their letters say, has an exciting decision ahead of them.

  6. Anonymous #1: yes, they do.

  9. New anonymice: The HMC FB app will be changed to allow new admits to join in the near future; our computer support people have it on their to-do list. ED admits will be getting all of the handy dandy information that RD admits were sent, also soon -- those packets went out today.

I checked the mailbox today... but now I am away on vacation! My decision will be rotting in the mailbox for almost a week!

I understand that you like mailing decisions, but perhaps you could email them (even delayed by a few days) to those of us who do not sit lethargically by our mailboxes during spring break?

  15. Hi Hannah/Colleen I was just wondering if the PSP finalist notifications have gone out yet? It's just so I can stop getting my hopes up if the time has passed. In any case I'm really happy having been accepted into HMC!

  17. Hi Victor & Anonymous #3,

Back in action again. (Sorry - I had to leave town at the critical moment for a family emergency. Thanks to Hannah for taking over so ably!) We did e-mail PSP decisions already, so finalists should have something in their inboxes. If you don't have one, that doesn't mean we don't think you're awesome, as I hope the admission letter attests. Congratulations!

  20. Sandra, what e-mail address did you use on your Common Application? That's what we used for Facebook. You can call or e-mail the admission office tomorrow for assistance.

Financial aid information should be sent out within a week -- please see the FAQs for why it wasn't included in your admission letter.

  24. Anonymous -- all domestic students should have received their letters by now (I'm pretty sure the letters have even made it to Hawaii), and those living abroad were notified by e-mail. If you call the office on Monday, we can send a copy of your son's decision letter to his e-mail address. Good luck!

    Best,
    Colleen
